Review: Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare

“Everyone is afraid of something. We fear things because we value them. We fear losing people because we love them. We fear dying because we value being alive. Don’t wish you didn’t fear anything. All that would mean is that you didn’t feel anything.”

It was an amazing sequel! The drama of Lady Midnight went on and got even fiercer. Totally met all my expectations. There is so much going on in this book. The Unseelie King is treating the Shadowhunters because he’s bored of the Cold Peace, Annabel rose from the dead and has her own plans of revenge and a sudden group of traitors within the Clave that threatens Los Angeles Institute. This group of very annoying people tries to prove Arthur as lunatic, take his place and turn the world as it was in the past, where any engagement with the Downworlders is forbidden. The Blackthorns, Emma, Diana, Cristina must fight on all fronts in order to protect their home.

I love the Blackthorn family so much! Their relationships, the bond they have between all of them. Loved how the kids respect and appreciate everything Julian does for them, how supportive they are of each other.

Julian. I must say he is my favorite character in the series. He opened up in this book on another level. He is so complex and multidimensional. He definitely has a dark side to his personality; hope to see more of it in the third book. Emma, on the other hand, was quite disappointing. She is an awesome Shadowhunter and kicked some Faerie butts, no doubt. However, in her personal life, she was dull. It was clear that Julian loves her more than she loves him. He fights for their love in EVERY way possible even if it shows his dark side, but Emma acts like she given up already. Moreover, she didn’t even try. It’s so frustrating! It feels like Julian does everything; fights for his family and for his love. It is Julian against the world and Emma is just there…

The book is very intense and eventful. I think, there wasn’t a chapter where nothing happened. Lots of drama and action. Special thanks to Cassandra for Magnus and Alec’s cute family. They were adorable!

The love triangle of Mark-Christina-Kieran was so unnecessary! They all just loved each other, maybe they should just be all together. That would be something different… not in a good way though.

The ending. I don’t even want to talk about it. I want Cassandra to stop, JUST STOP breaking Julian’s heart, PLEASE!

“Fiction is truth, even if it is not fact. If you believe only in facts and forget stories, your brain will live, but your heart will die.”

Rating: 5/5 what else…
