Review: Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin

Wicked are the ways of women—and especially a witch. Their guile knows no bounds

Louisa is forced to flee her home and hide in the city. From your age, she has to survive the cruel realities of street life and hiding her true self. She is a witch in the world where witches are considered to the most terrible evil. They are hunted and burned. She was succeeding to hide her identity but her life complicates when she meets Reid the Church Chasseur, whose biggest goal is to save the kingdom from witches even if it means to locate and execute each and every one of them. One day, when they least expect it, they find themselves in the situation when they have to marry in order to save themselves. That moment opens a new chapter in their lives, that would lead to unexpected adventures and the most shocking consequences.

Un malheur ne vient jamais seul. Misfortune never arrives alone.

To say that I love this book is to say nothing because I’m freaking obsessed with Serpent & Dove! It’s the perfect fantasy novel I was longing since The Court of Thorns and Roses and The Lunar Chronicles. It was an amazing read; captivating, intriguing, adventurous and extremely romantic. It had lots of funny moments I adored, Lou is such an amazing character. Her wit just cracked me up every single time! The way she was taking to embarrass Reid was hilarious! Reid was amazing too, I enjoyed watching him develop and grow. Overall, the plot was interesting and it had the right amount of drama, action, and romance. I cannot wait to read the next book and see what awaits ahead and what’s going to happen to my beloved Lou and Reid!

Take into consideration though, the book is a little bit (a lot to be honest) on the cheesy side. I liked it, I was in the mood for some romance, ha! The romance is actually a huge part of the plot. There’s definitely more focus on the relationship than on the world-building and the magic aspect.
